Garnier Sakura White Moisturiser

So I found this day moisturiser whilst I was on my holiday in Thailand. This promises you a 'pinkish radiance'. I don't normally like lightening moisturisers/products on me as I am very proud and keen of my olive/brown skin. However I still bought it cause 1:)it's cheap 2.) tried it out and it actually does the moisturising job 3.) it has a tinge of fresh fragrance with it.

So what I love about this product apart from what I have mentioned above? My skin is normally dry but it could be oily through the day and I love the fact that I can just put this product on without the need to powder my face to dry up the oily bits. It kinda works as a powder-based moisturiser for me.

That's probably why it claims to give you a pinkish glow. The glow that you will get isn't permanent. It gives you, as I said, a pinkish 'powder' effect on your face so you can ditch your actual powder and blush.

I find it so helpful when I'm on the go and can't be bothered to put make up on my face. It leaves me with a smooth, 'pinkish' complexion on my face.

Why you should keep a journal

In different forms, journals have been around for centuries. From 56 AD early archived Chinese documents, to the 10th century The Pillow Book, to the Diary of Anne Frank (1952) and the waves of modern day bloggers (as cited in Stevens and Cooper, 2009)

I used to keep a journal when I was a kid. I think until I was in 4th year high school when our Values Education teacher actually required us to submit one at the end of the school year.
Towards my young adult life I still wrote in journals but not as often I used to do. Until last year when I've started doing my Counselling course at Keele. The student are again required to keep journals. But what's really the reason we should keep and maintain one?

My current Journal

So what could be the benefits of journal keeping for you?
  • Journal keeping is a therapeutic way of pouring your heart out
  • Some research show that this practice gives better health through reduction of stress
  • Allowing you to reflect on your thoughts
  • Improved awareness and writing skills
I love words and being reflective. I love the fact that I can just pour all my feelings on a sheet of paper and feel better afterwards even though I cannot necessarily solve a certain problem/concern straightaway. I love to keep memories via journal writing too. It's just so therapeutic and I recommend keeping a journal to everybody.

How Clean is Your Skin?

Okay so today I want to do a review of a facial product I have been using. Just for a change. I am reviewing this ever-so good DHC Deep cleansing oil. It claims to 'completely dissolve all dirt and cosmetics' on your face. All you need to do is rub a few drops on your face then rinse thoroughly. It can be bought at DHC website for a quite pricey £21.50. Actually and honestly, it is much more expensive than your ordinary make-up remover. But does it work?

So after I smothered it all over my face and rinsed with warm water, I use this cleansing water from Nivea to check if there's any more dirt left...

And voila! Not bad (well, the lighting is bad and does not do this picture justice) You could still see specks of dust/remnant of dirt. But hey, yes. It is completely worth buying! My skin feels smoother too and you could notice a little bit of radiance upon rinsing. Also, my face feels so clean and light.

Will I buy this product again? Yes and No. Yes  if I can't be bothered to try other products. No for the price. Perhaps when I'm not too busy I will actually look for and test other products if they can do the job this oil does.  But for now, I will use this. Easy to buy (via their website) and DHC often sends their customers freebies and samples. Love it.

Exercise: The Real Benefits of Walking

Since I'd been on and off from work due to recurrent chest infection and asthma, I couldn't really do vigorous or any cardio exercises as I got too short of breath. I could not even walk my dog as I couldn't manage to get any far.

However, as I felt a little better, I started walking my dog again. I started from 10-15 minutes walk a day then increase the length of time by 5 minutes every other day. Nowadays I can walk and play with my dog for up to forty minutes! I know it doesn't sound much, especially for a 26 year old woman, but I'm still in the process of recovering. I guess it's just a matter of gauging your capabilities and not pushing yourself too much. What important is we must always be ready to take our 'first step' towards good health.

So c'mon, let's start walking!

Benefits of walking:
  • It can be enjoyed by people of all ages
  • Not an intense or too vigorous way of exercising - do it on your own pace!
  • A study shows that 30 minutes moderate to intense walking can result to expenditure of around 207 calories
  • You can enjoy some beautiful or interesting sceneries along the way
  • You can enjoy a good company (with a pet or a friend)
  • Walking can help you make mindful choices in your life
"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being & walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it." - Soren Kierkegaard

Healing Lungs (Meditation)

I just recovered from a 5-month recurrent chest infections. I have been trying this meditation that supposedly helps your lungs.

The first night I tried this, I became more aware of my breathing and my blocked nose actually cleared.

Meditation is the same as Mindfulness. We become aware of our body's aches and pain, troubles and concerns. And only when we become actually aware of them then we start to learn to let them be and eventually let them go.

Gratitude for Greater Happiness

In a world full of modern life challenges it is easy to overlook our blessings and get into the habit of complaining. Being grateful is one of the techniques you can practice to achieve greater happiness in life.

A study of group of psychologists from University of California and University of Miami shows that being grateful makes us happier in life. The 10 week study of 196 people involves one group who are asked  to write down things for which they are grateful and another group to write down hassles that happen to them in those weeks ( i.e traffic on the way to work, a colleague who does not appreciate you). The study reports that the ‘gratitude’ group becomes 25% happier than the ‘hassle’ group.

Showing gratitude is an act of kindness to others and even to yourself. By saying ‘Thank you’ we allow ourselves to fully appreciate what life has provided us, either or small.

It is not only a way of appreciating others but also a way of helping ourselves into more positive mental health through happiness.
